The marriage procession that had come from Gujarat returned back to Sitamarhi. The team of Bachpan Bachao Andolan and the police team foiled the intentions of the groom and the girl’s family. As soon as the police got information about the arrival of the wedding procession, the police team reached the spot and stopped the wedding. The matter is of a village in Parihar police station area. Villagers say that there were complete preparations for the child marriage of the minor girl. The wedding procession had come from Gujarat, but as soon as information was received from the local ward level child protection committee, the Sitamarhi police and the team of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, an organization founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi, reached the spot and stopped the marriage.
The team of Bachpan Bachao Andolan had taken the initiative
Villagers told that the team of Bachpan Bachao Andolan gave information about child marriage to Sitamarhi DM Richie Pandey and SP Manoj Kumar Tiwari. The administrative team reached there on the instructions of DM and SP. People told that by then the boy’s family had also reached Sitamarhi from Gujarat with the wedding procession. The entire marriage ceremony was completed by the girl’s family. Now the wedding program was going ahead when on the instructions of Sadar SDO cum Child Marriage Prohibition Officer Sanjeev Kumar and District ASP cum Nodal Special Juvenile Police Unit Manoj Ram, the police administration reached the wedding venue and immediately stopped the wedding.
The police also made a bond
The joint team of police and Bachpan Bachao Andolan reached the spot and got a bond issued by the girl’s family and stopped the child marriage of the minor girl. Also, the people present were informed about the law prohibiting child marriage and the provision of punishment for committing this legal offence. After this the marriage procession returned from there and the child marriage of the minor girl was stopped. Now this matter is being discussed in the entire village.
